MIL-DTL-11603G(AT)
4.5.4 Service brake adjustment check. The brakes shall be adjusted as specified and
checked for meeting performance requirements. Each brake shall be adjusted separately with the
plugs removed from the brake inspection holes.
4.5.5 Low range and reverse gear band adjustment check To determine conformance to
3.2.3, the low range and reverse gear bands shall be adjusted as specified and checked for meeting
performance requirements. Each band shall be adjusted separately.
4.5.6 Functional test. The range selector shall be placed in high range. With the output
shafts stalled, increase the input speed to 980 to 100 rpm and run at this speed for a minimum of
one minute. With the output shafts coupled to the dynamometers but with no load on the output
shafts, run at 980 to 1000 rpm, and functionally check all steer and shift positions for any
indication of mechanical malfunction.
4.5.7 High range tests. The transmission shall be operated, as specified in 4.5.7.1 and
4.5.7.2, and checked for meeting the specified performance requirements.
4.5.7.1 Stall. To determine conformance to 3.3.2, the transmission shall be operated with
the range selector in high range, the output shafts stalled and the converter "out" oil temperature
stabilized at 200 to 225°F (93 to 107°C). If the transmission stall performance does not fall
within the parameters in table II, transmission has failed the test.
4.5.7.2 No-load. To determine conformance to 3.3.3, the transmission shall be operated
with the range selector in high range but no load on the output shafts and with 1790 to 1810 rpm
input speed, and the converter "out" oil temperature stabilized at 180 to 225°F (82 to 107°C). If
the transmission performance does not fall within the parameters in table III, transmission has
failed the test.
4.5.8 Low range tests. The transmission shall be operated, as specified in 4.5.8.1 and
4.5.8.2, and checked for meeting the specified performance requirements.
4.5.8.1 Stall. To determine conformance to 3.3.4, the transmission shall be operated with
the range selector in low range, the transmission service brakes applied to stall output shafts, and
the converter "out" oil temperature stabilized at 200°F (93°C). If the transmission stall
performance does not fall within the parameters in table IV, transmission has failed the test.
4.5.8.2 No-load tests. To determine conformance to 3.3.5, the transmission shall be
operated with the range selector in low range but no load on the output shafts, the transmission
service brakes released, and with 1790 to 1810 rpm input speed and the converter "out" oil
temperature stabilized at 180 to 225°F (82 to 107°C). If the transmission performance does not
fall within the parameters in table V, transmission has failed the test.
